Irrigation Infrastructure

Shambhala Infra Pvt. Ltd. (SIPL) commenced its irrigation-sector operations with the reconstruction of the Maogaon Irrigation Scheme in Sarpang in 2018. Since that milestone, the company has completed 16 major irrigation projects across Bhutan, developing substantial expertise in the planning, construction, and installation of water-conveyance systems in diverse and challenging terrain.

Among SIPL’s major achievements is the Design, Build, Operate and Transfer (DBOT) of the Phangyul Irrigation Scheme under Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag, executed at a contract value of Nu. 550 million in 2024. The project comprised approximately 38 km of irrigation pipeline and included 560 mm-diameter HDPE pipe—the largest pipe size used for an irrigation scheme in Bhutan. Across its portfolio, SIPL has installed pipelines ranging from 110 mm to 560 mm in diameter, helping strengthen agricultural productivity and water security for farming communities throughout the country.

SIPL is currently executing the Construction of the Integrated Drinking Water and Irrigation Scheme for Hesotshamchu under Wangdue Dzongkhag. Funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the project has a contract value of Nu. 700 million and is expected to benefit thousands of households in Gasetshogom and Gasetshowom gewogs. It’s 21 km transmission system comprises 2.7 km of 700 mm diameter carbon-steel pipe and 18.3 km of 710 mm-diameter HDPE pipe. Upon completion, the project is expected to surpass the 560 mm benchmark established at Phangyul and set a new national benchmark for pipe diameter in Bhutan’s irrigation and water-supply sector.
